How to Make A Difference on World Animal Day

October 4th is World Animal Day, and everyone can help improve living conditions for animals around the world by raising awareness. This can be achieved by improving animal rights and welfare programs.

Everyone Can Make A Difference

Everyone can make a difference when it comes to keeping animals safe. This can be with direct actions like volunteering or financial support via donations. And that’s exactly what World Animal Day is all about, raising awareness.

However, unlike previous years, where communities could hold events to celebrate the day, COVID-19 has changed how we must approach what we can do.

Thus, you might have to get a little creative on how you help out if you were a more hands-on person.

How to Make a Difference on World Animal Day

1. Use Social Media

The best way to spread the word about any subject is to use social media. This year, make sure to use the #WorldAnimalDay hashtag on social media. The more popular it becomes, the better the odds that people will see it.

Share your love for animals and the hardships they face or give a shoutout to your favorite animal charity or organization.

In reality, just talking about it on social media goes a long way.

2. Volunteer

On a normal year, volunteering would definitely be at the top of this list. But due to safety concerns, volunteering isn’t available in all regions. In fact, many animal shelters are currently prohibiting volunteers.

However, some volunteering opportunities do exist.

Just keep in mind that it doesn’t have to be World Animal Day to volunteer, so be sure to lend a hand in the future.

3. Make A Donation

The internet has made making donations as simple as just clicking a button. And there are a host of amazing organizations that help animals every day that you can make a donation too.

If you’re looking for a roundup of organizations you can donate to, check out Yahoo Finances List.

Just remember, even the smallest donation can make a huge difference.

4. Adopt A New Pet

Adopt A Pet

Around 6.5 million animals end up in a shelter each year in the United States. This has lead to overcrowding and supply shortages for these shelters, but you can make a difference by adopting a new friend today.

Unfortunately, 1.5 million animals are euthanized each year because they cannot find a new home.

Thus, every animal adopted is an animal saved. So take a trip to your local animal shelter if you have room for a new friend.

5. Clean Up Trash

Unfortunately, even in 2020, people do not properly dispose of garbage. This trash makes its way into our forests and oceans, which ends up hurting the wildlife.

However, this can be fully prevented by cleaning it up before it ever gets into those areas.

The biggest offender in this is plastic, it is linked to the death of 100 million marine animals each year.

Celebrate Every Day

Sadly, the average person only acts like this once a year, but there’s no reason to limit yourself to it. Instead, treat every day like World Animal Day.

Doing so can make a huge difference and can set an excellent example for friends and family.

Remember, we share this world with animals, so let’s make sure it’s a great place to live for everyone.
