It’s that time of year again! WordCamp US kicks off in Portland, Oregon on September 17th through the 20th. And this year, GreenGeeks will be there in person at the Oregon Convention Center! If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by our booth and say, “Hello.”
It’s a great location and easily accessible from Highway 5 and 84.
What to Expect from WordCamp US in 2024
Throughout the week, you’ll be able to access a lot of great talks ranging from business management to the use of AI in WordPress.
Perhaps one of the more notable topics this year is how so many big brands such as Disney, CNN, and TIME utilize features found in WordPress to spearhead their online presence.
Keep in mind, though, there are a lot of other great talks this year such as:
- Deeply Integrating AI with WordPress
As the popularity of AI continues, so does its versatility. In this talk, James LePage, goes over AgentWP, an AI assistant for individual user websites. AgentWP does everything from writing posts to troubleshooting problems. - Building a Block First Digital News Platform for Pew Research Center
Blocks in WordPress can do an amazing number of things and can help design some of the most elaborate websites. Seth Rubenstein will talk about how Pew Research Center launched a news platform built entirely from blocks and how it works. - WordPress Speed Build Battle: A Lightning-Fast Web Design Contest!
Presented by Jamie Marsland, Amber Hinds, and Brian Coords, this contest shows audience members innovative techniques to recreate famous websites. Not only will it be a fun competition, but educational as viewers gain tips on improving their own website layouts in the process. - How to Grow and Protect Your Brand
In this talk, Neil Peretz gives over the necessary information about law and trademarks to help you keep your brand safe and secure. In today’s online-driven world, no one is safe from the criminal element, not even sole-proprietary freelancers. - Innovative Pricing Strategies to Grow Your WordPress Business
Pricing strategies are vital if you want your business to grow, especially as a freelancer. I’ve seen too many people decimate their own income for the sake of making a sale. In this talk, Brian Rotsztein discusses pricing strategies while relaying critical factors you’ll need for continued success.
These are but a drop in the bucket to what’s available this year at WordCamp US. It’ll be hard to choose which talks to attend as many of them coincide at the same time. However, you can also watch replays of them on WordPress.tv if you’re unable to attend.
Since You’ll Be in Oregon…
In my opinion, Oregon has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the US. Though, I might be a bit biased as some of my family lives there. Still, it has some great attractions that you wouldn’t want to miss while attending WordCamp US in 2024.
Some of the highlights include:
- Checking out the Portland Saturday Market. Running from the beginning of March through mid-December, the market is essentially like combining art shows and a live street music festival. Artisans of all kinds collect to show off amazing talents through various souvenirs, jewelry, paintings, and more.
- Visiting the Portland Japanese Garden. If you love the outdoors or have a penchant for Japanese design, the garden is something you absolutely don’t want to miss. Waterfalls, vegetation, and building recreations really capture a bit of Japanese culture, and is an amazingly beautiful location.
- Exploring Crater Lake National Park. Now, I know Crater Lake is about a 4-hour drive south of Portland. But I wanted to add it simply because it is one of the most amazing bodies of water in the country. Its still, glass-like waters and breathtaking surrounding nature is a spectacular site to behold.
Sure, you’ll have your hands full of visiting WordCamp in Portland. But make sure you take some time for yourself to enjoy what Oregon offers. It’s an incredible state with a great deal of majestic beauty.
Have a Great Week at WordCamp US!
While you’re at WordCamp, be sure to stop by our table and meet Ericka, Marco, and Anna as they’ll be in person to chat with you. It’s one of the highlights of our visit, actually. We love interacting with campgoers.
I’d like to take a moment to thank the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees for making these camps wondrous. It’s people like you who make the WordPress community one of the best in the world.
Have a great week, all!
